StoryWalks® at Noyes

The Noyes StoryWalk® program began in January 2021, when the NCLF Board realized that there were still ways to promote early literacy and a love of books even during a pandemic! Based on the Storywalk® model developed by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT, The Noyes StoryWalk® began by posting laminated pages of the Jan Brett classic The Mitten on storefronts along Antique Row in Kensington, MD.

The second StoryWalk®, in February 2021, moved to Kensington's historic Warner Circle Park - across the street from Noyes Children's Library - and celebrated Black History Month with the winter favorite The Snowy Day, the first book featuring an African American child to win the Caldecott Medal for excellence in children's picture books.

In the months and years since then, the Noyes StoryWalk® has marched across parks in Kensington and throughout Montgomery County, has brought bilingual books to elementary schools and We're Going on a Bear Hunt to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and has helped celebrate diverse communities and historic accomplishments. Most importantly, the Noyes StoryWalk® brings quality children's literature into the fresh air, ensuring that all children and families can enjoy the magic of a good story.

StoryWalk® StoryWalk® is a registered trademark of Anne Ferguson, and was created in 2007 by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT, in collaboration with former staff member Rachel Senechal, and is a registered service mark of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® now exist across the U.S. and worldwide in 13 countries including Germany, Canada, England, Bermuda, Russia, Malaysia, Pakistan and South Korea!
