The Noyes Children’s Library Foundation held an Ice Bucket Challenge at Noyes Library on Saturday, August 23, 2014., to raise awareness of and funds for ALS research. The event celebrated the Foundation’s co-president, Jan Jablonski, who continues her decades-long support of the historic Noyes Library while also coping with advancing ALS.
Members of the Foundation Board, Library patrons, local lawmakers and other Noyes supporters were all invited to take the Challenge. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, through which individuals have freezing water dumped over their heads, swept the country in summer 2014 as each participant “challenged” friends to do the same in a video shared on social media. The ALS Association reported that between July 29 and August 21 2014, it received over $41 million in donations from more than 700,000 new donors. read more here.
